Brazil left interest rates unchanged last night but the accompanying statement suggested that without fresh evidence that inflation pressures are easing, policy will be tightened at the next month’s rate-setting meeting. February’s inflation data (due Friday) are now crucial. But even if rates are raised next month, we doubt that the aggressive tightening now priced into the market is likely.
