What impact is a weaker yen having on imports?

The sharp fall in the yen over the last two years seems to have slowed the long-term rise in imports of manufactured goods relative to domestic production. However, even a further weakening of the exchange rate may not bring it to a complete halt. Export volumes will therefore have to start rising soon for the trade deficit to stop widening.
