While inflation remains well below the Bank of Japan’s 2% target, Governor Kuroda deserves credit for a number of radical policy changes. His reappointment would therefore underline the government’s resolve in tackling deflation and repairing the public finances. Unfortunately, criticism from people close to PM Abe suggests that a second term for Mr Kuroda is far from guaranteed.
