Monetary Indicators Monitor (Apr.14)

The latest Senior Loan Officer survey showed that banks expect household loan demand to weaken sharply in the second quarter. Borrowing is highly likely to slow now that the consumption tax hike has taken place but that is not the only factor at play. Survey evidence suggests that lending will be subdued for a while.
