Purchases of government bonds by the Bank of Japan have stabilised over the past six months. But the rate at which its holdings are growing has continued to slow as its bonds are now maturing at a rapid rate. Our view remains that the Bank’s holdings of government bonds will rise by only about half as much this year as they did in 2017.
