Currency markets brushed off the latest expansion to the Bank of Japan’s asset purchase scheme, sending the yen back through 76 to the dollar shortly after the announcement. Although we think it unlikely Japanese authorities will be able to arrest the yen’s rise, it is disappointing that the Bank is not willing to do more to restore price stability.
