In light of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) signalling the end of the loosening cycle in its most recent policy meeting in February, most analysts are now expecting the central bank to keep rates on prolonged hold, including in next week’s announcement. However, we remain comfortable going a step further in expecting the RBI to begin hiking rates over the next 12 to 18 months as its medium-term inflation target comes under pressure.
