Weak German exports dent hopes for 2016

Contrary to hopes that a weaker euro and accommodative monetary policy would be particularly beneficial to Germany’s supposedly super-competitive export sector, the latest data have brought signs that growth may have passed its peak.

Both exports and industrial production were soft in October, suggesting that German GDP growth may slow further in the fourth quarter of the year and denting hopes of a pick-up in the euro-zone’s largest economy in 2016.
