The relative calmness of the financial markets during the Cyprus episode and after the Italian election might be seen as an indication that the worst of the euro-zone crisis is now behind us. But it is the behaviour of bank deposits in Cyprus and elsewhere – not the calmness of the bond markets – that will tell us whether the crisis is really over the worst or has entered a new and potentially more dangerous phase.
