ECB to support banks as stress tests bring little comfort

Last week’s confirmation that stress tests of EU banks will be published on 23rd July did little to ease fears about the sector, probably because the scenarios considered will not be adverse enough. At least the ECB’s latest comments suggest that it will provide commercial banks with unlimited liquidity for some time yet. But this will not be enough to ensure a bank lending revival.
