The recent bail-out and banking support measures may have pulled Ireland back from the brink of imminent disaster. But the economy and the public finances remain in an extremely precarious position. Indeed, with Ireland at risk of a Japanese-style “lost decade”, its only chance of salvation may be to restructure its debts and abandon the euro.
