The strength of the latest GDP figures out of Central Europe, despite weakness in Germany, partly reflects rapid wage growth and robust consumer spending. But it also looks like growth was supported by a rebound in car production, which added an average of 0.5%-pts to growth – this didn’t occur in Germany. This boost will be temporary though, supporting our view that growth in the region will weaken this year.
