Turkey: muddling through, for now

The early signs suggest that Turkey’s economy has emerged from this summer’s turbulence in financial markets relatively unscathed. Nonetheless, while GDP growth appears to have held up, it has been supported by a further expansion of credit and accompanied by a renewed widening of the current account deficit. In other words, the vulnerabilities that put Turkey in the firing line during this summer’s EM sell-off are deepening.
