The Russian central bank abandoned its cautious approach to the coronavirus outbreak by cutting its key policy rate by 50bp, to 5.50%, today and the accompanying communications gave the clearest possible indication that further easing is on the cards. With inflation set to remain low and the fiscal response unlikely to increase much further, we expect a further 100bp of interest rate cuts over the coming months.
