Does rising confidence in Hungary herald stronger growth?

Last month’s EC Economic Sentiment Indicator for Hungary rose to its highest level for over a decade and, on past form, this is consistent with GDP growth of 5% y/y or so. However, it’s worth noting that in previous instances when the economic outlook has brightened, the ESI seems to have run ahead of itself. At the risk of sounding like doom-mongers, we think the same may be happening now.
