There is some uncertainty over whether the new counting system is up to the job but the 10th May presidential election in the Philippines should bring a clear-cut result. The new government will target fiscal consolidation and measures to lift investment. Moreover, the economic upswing is likely to continue, policy rates will probably move up in June or July, and the peso looks set to rise further.
