Malaysia rates to stay low

Bank Negara, as expected, today kept policy rates unchanged and again indicated that it will keep rates on hold for a prolonged period. The economy is picking up but the upswing is more fragile than elsewhere in Asia, y/y consumer price deflation looks set to persist for a while, and the risk of asset bubbles quickly developing is low. Bank Negara is unlikely to hike rates before mid-2010.
