Malaysia on hold for now, but a cut is likely next year

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) kept its policy rate on hold today at 3.0%, as was widely expected. The economy has performed well amid the global slowdown and so there is little need for the central bank to provide support in the near term. Nonetheless, in contrast to the consensus, we still think rates are more likely to be cut than hiked next year.
