How bad is the outlook for exports?

Given the collapse in the global economy, merchandise exports from Emerging Asia have so far held up better than might have been anticipated. The fact that the global slump has been driven by services rather than manufacturing and the strength of demand for electronics products are important factors behind the resilience. A better-than-expected performance of the export sector poses an upside risk to our GDP forecasts for this year.
