Iran and the West appear to be edging towards an interim deal that should ease tensions over Iran's nuclear programme, despite the impasse in Geneva at the weekend. Sanctions on Iran's oil exports would probably remain in place well into next year, and perhaps beyond. But in the meantime, any substantial progress in the talks is likely to undermine oil prices, while the eventual lifting of sanctions could knock $10 off the cost of a barrel of crude.
