How long will the Hong Kong peg last?

A provocative new paper by Joseph Yam, the former head of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, calling for the territory to review its currency peg to the US dollar has once again raised questions over the future of the Hong Kong dollar. Overall, we believe that while the current policy has disadvantages (which currency arrangement doesn’t?), the peg is still in Hong Kong’s best option, and is likely to remain in place for at least another decade.
