The survey-based evidence of elevated orders backlogs and the news that both imports and exports slumped in September illustrate the impact that global supply shortages are having on industry. But Canadian labour market shortages appear to be less pronounced that those south of the border, with employment, total hours worked and participation all either at, or very close to, pre-pandemic levels.
