Slumping home sales is casting a dark shadow over prospects for new housing construction. Although the recent surge in multi-unit housing starts might sustain the elevated level of overall housing construction for a while longer, it seems that increasing numbers of 'investors' are moving to the sidelines for fear of what might lie ahead. Even a slump in new condo construction alone could easily cut half a percentage point from annual GDP growth.
