The anaemic rate of Canadian economic growth is becoming a major concern, particularly when the chances are that growth will only slow further in the second half of this year. Before the end of this year we expect the Bank of Canada to drop the language in its statements suggesting that policy might eventually have to be tightened and we still think that the next move in the policy rate is more likely to be downwards.
