Housing downturn dashing hopes of economic rebound

The downward trend in existing home sales, building permits and housing starts suggests that shrinking residential investment will be a drag on GDP growth over the first half of this year. Accordingly, we still remain convinced that the Bank of Canada will soon drop its distant rate tightening bias.
