Business confidence index points to better start to 2013

The recent improvement in small and medium sized business confidence points to a pick-up in economic growth in the first quarter, to around 2% annualised, roughly twice the pace of last quarter. We doubt that this pace will be sustained, however, given the fragile global backdrop and potentially severe housing market correction underway.
