The Bank of Canada's policy statement, while keeping its policy rate at 1.00%, backed off from the suggestion in the previous statement that interest rates may need to rise. The Bank is now more deeply concerned about the faltering global economic recovery and the downside risks to growth in Canada. This supports our view that interest rates are unlikely to rise anytime soon.
