Employment rose by 28,700 in March, more than anyone expected, though not by enough to reduce the jobless rate from 6.8%. The details, however, were less impressive. Even so, the odds of a rate cut by the Bank of Canada next week have diminished somewhat, although we still wouldn't rule out the possibility entirely.
