International Merchandise Trade (Feb.)

Despite February’s decline in export volumes, earlier gains mean that exports in Q1 asa whole grew quite strongly, easily outpacing imports. Net exports likely contributedas much as 3 percentage points to GDP growth. While domestic demand probablyremained weak, it now looks likely that the economy grew by close to 3.5%annualised, enough to keep the central bank side-lined on interest rates for now.
