While the sharp decline in export volumes in August was disappointing, the big gains in earlier months mean that net trade still contributed positively to third-quarter GDP, which we now estimate grew by 2.5% annualised. That is well above the Bank of Canada’s 1.5% forecast and suggests that a rate cut at the policy meeting later this month is unlikely.
