August trade figures were disappointing. Export volumes were largely unchanged and there were downward revisions to export growth in previous months. Overall, we calculate that net exports likely subtracted around 1 percentage point or more from third-quarter GDP growth, much more than we earlier assumed. Accordingly, this suggests that the economy, which we previously estimated grew by 1.4% annualised, might have grown by under 1%.
