The headline inflation rate rose to 1.6% in September, from 1.4%, but the increase was partly due to higher energy prices, which have already begun to fall back. Although some of the core inflation measures edged higher, they remain well below the 2.0% target. Accordingly, there is no pressing need for the Bank of Canada to raise interest rates again next week.
