By leaving interest rates at 1.5% and the policy statement mostly unchanged at his first meeting as Governor, Philip Lowe showed he is cut from much the same cloth as his predecessor. But while Lowe may be a little less worried by low inflation than Glenn Stevens, we still think he will cut interest rates to 1.0% next year when it becomes clear that underlying inflation isn’t rising as he hopes.
