The recent weakness in productivity is largely cyclical and reflects the slump in homebuilding. While Australia probably won’t be a frontrunner in the digital revolution, we expect labour productivity growth to pick up from 0.8% over the past decade to around 1.5% by end-2030. Combined with strong population growth, that means that potential GDP growth will strengthen to around 3.0%.
