Discoveries of giant gas fields off the coast of East Africa in the past few months are likely to have a very positive impact on the economies of Mozambique and Tanzania. But while both countries stand to benefit from the finds, there is a need to mitigate the risk of “Dutch Disease”, and to ensure that commodity revenues are distributed equitably to prevent socio-economic problems in the medium-term.
