Egypt’s headline inflation rate rose to 15.0% y/y in September, its fastest pace in nearly four years as the impact of the falls in the pound fed through. Inflation will accelerate over the rest of this year which, coming alongside further falls in the pound and central banks elsewhere continuing to hike interest rates, is likely to force the Central Bank of Egypt to restart its tightening cycle.
