Shift to South helps homes get bigger

Working from home has increased the demand for larger properties, and in response the median size of new homes started at the end of last year was the largest since the start of 2019. Supporting that move to larger properties has been a shift to building more homes in the South, where land is more plentiful and planning regulations less strict. With working full time from home here to stay for many workers, that shift to the South will continue and the upward trend in new home size will persist.
