Applications for refinance and home purchase both increased in April, driven in part by a drop in mortgage interest rates. While an expected increase in rates will dampen refinance activity in the coming months, a strong labour market and gradual easing in credit conditions should allow lending for home purchase to rise at a gentle pace.
