The Fed delivered an even more hawkish shift at the December meeting than we had anticipated, with the pace of tapering doubled and officials now forecasting three rate hikes next year. Reflecting that new tone, we now expect the Fed to raise rates three times in 2022 (up from two), followed by four rate hikes in 2023, a slightly faster pace of tightening than markets currently anticipate.
