A lot could still change over the next five months but, as things stand, Joe Biden appears to be the favourite to win November’s presidential election. Biden’s policies are more moderate than some of his earlier Democratic rivals’ and we would expect his election to be broadly neutral for the economy as a whole. But he would still represent a clear shift to the left compared to President Donald Trump, particularly if he ends up beholden to a new wave of progressive Democrats in Congress.
