Retail Sales & Industrial Production (Aug.)

The August retail sales and industrial production reports highlight the continued divergence between a strong domestic economy led by healthy consumer spending and weakness in the export-orientated factory sector, which is being weighed down by the strong dollar. Since manufacturing accounts for only 12% of GDP, however, GDP growth should still be a solid 2.5% annualised in the second half of the year.
