The annual rate of CPI inflation edged back up to 2.2% last month, from 2.0%, but will drop back before year-end thanks to the continued decline in gasoline prices. Core inflation remained unchanged at 2.0%, in line with the Fed's target, leaving the central bank free to focus on supporting real activity.
