Fears that BTL investors will trigger another housing market downturn by selling up en-masse if house prices begin to falter, are at odds with the evidence from the last downturn. Contrary to expectations, this shows that landlords stayed put. As a result, while there is no guarantee that history will repeat itself, the popular idea that BTL must be the weakest link in the chain is certainly open to question.
