Rents have more room to grow in the North

At the national level, private rent payments as a share of earnings are currently slightly above their average since records began in 2005. But there are large regional differences. With the rent burden at record highs in London, but below average in the North, there is scope for rents in the Midland and Northern regions to grow faster than our national forecast of 2.5% to 2.7% over the next few years.
