The Halifax index recorded flat house prices in March, but that tells us little about the effect of the coronavirus. And with very few housing transactions likely to go through across April and May, the house price data could become unusually volatile in the coming months. Our best guess is that house prices will fall by a modest 3% in 2020, although the risks are on the downside.
