The Halifax index recorded another jump in house prices in December. This could signal a Boris bounce, but with price gains on the other main indices much weaker, today’s data probably overstate the strength of the market. Indeed, the big picture is that the housing market fundamentals are not conducive to a substantive pick-up in prices over the next few years.
