Regional Monitor (Jul.)

The latest regional indicators suggest that the North-South economic divide has continued to widen, with a pick-up in output growth in the South – particularly in London – failing to broaden out to the northern regions of the UK. That said, recent labour market data suggest that London has been particularly adversely affected by the public sector job cuts.

This is the first edition of our UK Regional Monitor – a monthly update on the recent economic performance of the UK regions. It complements the analysis of the regional economic outlook and forecasts set out for the first time in our most recent UK Quarterly Review (sent to clients on 14th July.)
