Snow effects aside, the recovery looks lacklustre

The rebound in the CIPS/Markit surveys in January provides some reassurance that the 0.5% drop in GDP in the final quarter of last year was primarily due to the effects of the snow. However, as far as we can tell, the underlying trend in growth still seems to have slowed markedly since the middle of last year.
