The prices of industrial metals fell further in early January, unsettled by a renewed collapse in the crude oil price and by uncertainty surrounding exchange rate policy in China. However, sentiment revived later in the month as oil prices rebounded (on hopes of coordinated supply cuts) and the dollar weakened (on lower interest rate expectations). The prices of some metals are now higher than at the start of the year.
