Venezuelan gold rush a sign that the dollar drought is back

The Venezuelan President, Higo Chavez, has announced that he intends to nationalise the country's gold industry and repatriate gold reserves from abroad. With the dollat drought that blughted to economy last year set to return as oil prices fall, we suspect that this latest move signals the beginning of the government's desperate scramble for dollars ahad of next year's presidential elections.
